Soon after moving to the Isle of Skye in 2017 I learned the ropes as a Network Engineer, working for Community Broadband ISP’s.
Based in Sleat, Isle of Skye, I work closely with Loch Hourn Broadband Ltd, as a consultant and director, and with HUBS, for whom I maintain the West Highland Internet Exchange (WHIX). This exchange provides wholesale internet connectivity (backhaul) for remote communities from Glen Uig up the Sound of Sleat and over to Applecross. This takes me to amazing places such as Arnisdale, Knoydart, Toscaig and the SMO UHI University Campus in Kilbeg, Sleat, where my office is.
Before that I worked as a Physical-Chemistry Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. I’ve had a long-standing connection with that University since I studied there in 1998, for the final year of my Physics degree in the Netherlands (Utrecht University).
